Description
This Apple Crisp with Oatmeal & Extra Streusel is for true crunch lovers — a double layer of buttery oat topping over tender cinnamon-spiced apples. Perfect for fall baking or anytime you crave a cozy dessert.
Ingredients
6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for filling)
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)
3/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Toss sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 2 tablespoons flour in a large bowl. Set aside.
3. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon for the topping. Add cold butter and mix with fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
4. Spread apples evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle half the streusel over the apples, then top with the remaining streusel for extra crunch.
5. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until topping is golden and filling is bubbling.
6. Cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
Use cold butter to keep the topping light and crumbly.
Layering the topping twice ensures a thicker crunch.
Add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts for a nutty twist.
For gluten-free, substitute a GF flour blend and certified GF oats.
