Description

This chicken and cheese jalousie recipe is a flavorful, flaky pastry filled with savory chicken and melty cheese. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh herbs (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, cooking until softened (about 5 minutes).
  • In a bowl, combine the shredded chicken, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, cream cheese, Dijon mustard, and cooked onion and garlic mixture. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into squares or rectangles.
  • Place a generous amount of the chicken and cheese mixture in the center of each pastry piece.
  • Fold the pastry over the filling to create a pocket, sealing the edges with a fork.
  • Brush the top of each pastry with a beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can use any cheese combination you prefer for the filling.
  • If you don’t want to use store-bought puff pastry, you can make your own or use phyllo dough.
  • This recipe can be made ahead of time. Just assemble the jalousies and refrigerate them until ready to bake.
