Description
This delicious and easy-to-make chipped beef flour dumplings potatoes recipe combines tender dumplings, savory chipped beef, and creamy potatoes, perfect for a family-friendly, hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb chipped beef, sliced
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and mashed
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 2 tbsp butter (for dumplings)
- 4 cups water (for boiling dumplings)
- 1/2 cup milk (for mashed potatoes)
- 2 tbsp butter (for mashed potatoes)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, mashed potatoes, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Add the egg and knead the dough until smooth. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour.
- Roll the dough into small balls or oval shapes, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the dumplings and cook for 10-12 minutes or until they rise to the surface.
- Meanwhile, sauté chipped beef in a pan with butter over medium heat for 3-4 minutes.
- In a separate pot, prepare mashed potatoes by combining boiled potatoes, milk, and butter. Mash until smooth.
- Once dumplings are cooked, serve them over the mashed potatoes and top with sautéed chipped beef. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- To make the dumplings fluffier, use mashed potatoes that are not overly moist.
- You can substitute the chipped beef with cooked ground beef or turkey if desired.
- For a richer flavor, use heavy cream instead of milk for the mashed potatoes.
