Description
A classic American Salisbury Steak made with juicy 80/20 ground beef patties and topped with a rich, savory mushroom gravy. Easy to prepare, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 lb 80/20 ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp cooking oil (for searing)
Instructions
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, and onion powder. Mix gently to avoid dense patties.
-
Shape the mixture into equal-sized patties about 3/4 inch thick.
-
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
-
In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced mushrooms until golden and soft.
-
Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 1 minute.
-
Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Simmer until thickened.
-
Return patties to skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer for 5-7 minutes until patties are cooked through.
-
Serve hot with mushroom gravy.
Notes
-
Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor and juiciness.
-
Handle meat mixture gently to keep patties tender.
-
Adjust gravy thickness by adding more broth or a flour-water slurry.
-
Patties can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to 1 day before cooking.
