Description
This Sloppy Maple-BBQ Turkey Joes recipe uses lean ground turkey, maple syrup, and homemade BBQ flavor—all without refined sugar. Served with crunchy slaw on a bun, it’s clean comfort food.
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground turkey
1/2 cup finely chopped onion (optional)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
3 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
4 whole wheat buns
1 cup cabbage slaw (cabbage, carrot, lemon juice)
Instructions
1. In a skillet, cook turkey (and onion if using) over medium heat until browned.
2. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
3. Stir in maple syrup, tomato paste, vinegar, paprika, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper.
4. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
5. Toss slaw ingredients in a bowl and let sit for 5–10 minutes.
6. Assemble sandwiches: spoon turkey mix onto toasted buns and top with slaw.
7. Serve immediately.
Notes
Omit onions for a simpler version.
Use lettuce wraps instead of buns for a low-carb twist.
Chili flakes or sriracha can add a spicy edge.
