Description
This easy apple crisp recipe features Grandma’s secret oat topping — buttery, golden, and perfectly spiced — over tender cinnamon apples. A cozy, make-ahead dessert that’s perfect for any season.
Ingredients
6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Place sliced apples in a large mixing bowl. Toss with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
3. In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon for the topping. Add cold butter cubes and work them into the mixture with your fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
4. Spread apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle oat topping evenly over apples.
5. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
6. Cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.
Notes
For a gluten-free version, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend and certified gluten-free oats.
Add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping for extra crunch.
Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a classic pairing.
